It is common among tourists visiting Europe to combine more than two countries in a single trip, so that they can enjoy a wider ranged experience of cultures, traditions, history including places of interests. Bruges is the capital city of West Flanders and also the largest in the province, situated in the Flemish region of Belgium. In the year 2000, the city was declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The city offers magnificent structures of the medieval period that to this day remain intact.
The medieval architectures that are of significance are the Church of Our Lady, one of the world’s highest brick structures, the statue of Madonna and Child believed to have been created by Michelangelo, the 13th Century Belfry, the Basilica of the Holy Blood, the Groningemuseum, the City Hall to name only a few. Besides the grandeur of these medieval buildings, Bruges offers some great scenic beauty with mesmerizing canals and an artistic landscape that looks as if it came off an artist’s canvas. Everywhere you look, you will find that something attractive meets your eye. A great way of viewing the beauty of the picturesque surrounding is by taking one of the boat excursions down the canals.
Walking through the cobbled streets, sampling the sumptuous food, exploring sites, shopping for the famous Belgian lace and popping into a chocolate shop to purchase some of the lip-smacking chocolate are some of the activities that tourists are often indulging in. Apart from this the city offers great festivities, such as music festivals, food festivals, the beer festival and the list just goes on. Also you can enjoy the vibrant nightlife, restaurants and bars that are found in this enchanting city. No matter which part of the year you visit Bruges, you are going to enjoy every part of your trip to this city.
