Although every island in Greece has an enchantment of its own, Santorini, a Cyclades island can be described as one of the most beautiful and mesmerizing islands in the country. The towns are situated on rocky cliffs opposite an active volcano and overlooking the deep blue sea below. The craggy but picturesque landscape and fascinating views are quite in contrast to the other islands that offer greenery and attractive flora and fauna.

Officially known as Thira, this enchanting island attracts a reasonable amount of tourists to its interesting towns. Though people visiting the islands generally target the beach towns of Kamari and Perissa, there are other towns that offer you the real beauty of the Santorini Island. Fira a major town and also the capital of the Cyclades Island, is a great place to enjoy a peaceful holiday while at the same time experience the actual beauty of Santorini.
The distinctive way in which the towns are set atop cliffs and along beaches with interesting places, good cafés, nightclubs and shops, make Santorini different from the other Aegean Islands. The breathtaking views of the sunset are something to be cherished, as you watch the skyline change colors as the sun sets in the horizon. The weather is great in summer with warm and dry climate, typical of the Aegean Islands while winter is cold and wet, but the temperatures do not dip below zero degrees.
With enjoying a day at the beach to shopping at the stores and even large supermarkets to eating out at the restaurants or sweating it out at a disco or enjoying a live performance, one can find a lot to do in Santorini. Museums and other places of interests can also be explored. Whether eating at a roadside café or an expensive restaurant, one can sample some of the best Greek cuisines. Also sampling the locally produced wine is recommended, as Santorini is known to produce some great wines.
Getting to Santorini is not difficult, as apart from having its own airport for both domestic and international flights, there are several ferries that take passengers to and fro some of the major Greek cities. Also available are luxury cruises for those who wish to travel in style. In the island, travelers can get by either via a local bus or a rented car. For those who can brave it up and around the winding cliffs, a bicycle could be an enjoyable way to get around the towns.
Everything about the island is magical with extravagant views and natural surroundings creating a spectacular effect. The cauldron shaped island with a fascinating display of volcanic rock in the most extraordinary shades of color and the red sandy beaches all make Santorini a captivating island. So, if you want to visit Santorini, you could either do it like the other tourists by visiting the beach towns, but if you want to enjoy the real beauty of Santorini, then a visit to Fira, Imerovigli or the other towns with significant history would be an ideal place to target.
