Situated in northern Oman, in the Al Batinah region is the tiny coastal town of Barka, which is now coming up as a tourist resort with plenty of construction work being carried out for the sole purpose of tourism. The town is an hour’s drive from the capital city Muscat. The town has two major resorts, the Al-Sawadi and Al-Nahda resorts besides which massive development work has been undertaken by several international companies eight kilometers from the Sawadi Beach. The project has been named “Blue City”.
The Al-Sawadi Resort comprises of lavish landscape gardens and offers picturesque views of the beach. Also offered are various activities that include skiing and water sports. The Al-Nahda Resort is a luxury health resort and spa complete with all five star amenities. An interesting monument in the city that has been newly renovated is the Al Na’man Fort, which lies close to the coast and gives some great views of the town.
You can also visit the Daymaniyat Islands, the only marine nature reserve in Oman lying 18 km offshore of the Al Batinah coast. Since Barka is only an hour’s drive from Muscat, getting to the coastal town is not a problem and with its emergence as a tourist resort, it won’t be long before the coastal town becomes a major attraction in Oman.
