Situated in the western-most province of Panama, the Chiriquí Province, cozily tucked away in the highlands about 60 km from the border that has Costa Rica on the other side, lies the pretty town of Boquete. Boquete, which means ‘an opening’ was the short cut that gold-seekers used to get to the Pacific faster. Settlement started here in the 19th century while Boquete was established in 1911. As the town lies at an altitude, the climate here is cooler than the lowlands and hence not only the local inhabitants of Panama, but also tourists from all over the world visit this petite town for a refreshing holiday. One of the most significant landmarks in Boquete is the dormant volcano, Volcán Barú, which lies at an altitude of 3,475 meters. It is the highest geographical feature in Boquete and is a great place of interest for hikers climbing the relief. Also, one can visit the Volcán Barú National Park that stretches about 14,000 hectares.

The park consists of tropical rainforests and houses a wide variety of wildlife species while preserving the biodiversity of the area. The scenic landscape offers a wonderful view of natural beauty all around. Arco Iris is a fascinating place where you can see rainbows everyday, as this place receives rainfall every day of the year. The Caldera River that runs through the town also offers some spectacular views of the little town. Boquete is also well-known for its oranges that are said to be one of the juiciest and the most delicious in the whole of Panama.
