Los Angeles, also fondly known as LA and referred to as the ‘City of Angels’, is the largest city in the state of California and the second largest in the USA. The city was originally inhabited by Native Americans and it was not before 1542 that the first Europeans set foot here. Founded by Felipe de Neve, a Spanish governor, on September 4, 1781, Los Angeles has its fair share of history to it. After having gained independence from Spain, Los Angeles in 1821, became a part of Mexico. However, after the commencement of the Mexican-American war in 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo led to the city being purchased as part of the United States and on April 4, 1850, Los Angeles was incorporated as a municipality.
With an enchanting landscape that consists of both flat as well as hilly areas, this fabulous city has a beautiful modern infrastructure that comprises of huge high-rise buildings and luxurious houses and offices that form the elegant skyline. Some of the buildings are prestigious landmarks of the city. Los Angeles is home to the world-renowned Hollywood and is the foremost producer of motion pictures, music recordings, Television productions and a whole range of video games. It is therefore known as the ‘Entertainment Capital of the World’, besides which, Los Angeles is often termed as the ‘Creative Capital of the World’ because every sixth person here works for a creative industry.
Some of the major landmarks of the city include the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Kodak Theatre, Chinatown, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Hollywood sign, Los Angeles City Hall and others. The attractions here are endless, as Los Angeles has a fascinating range of interesting sights that include the 841 museums and art galleries. Universal Studios and Disneyland become top priority places of interest if you are traveling with family, although these are the most sought after attractions visited by worldwide tourists. Hollywood of course has a wild attraction that draws tourists from across the world to see and experience this great entertainment industry.
Apart from being a successful movie and entertainment industry, Los Angeles also has a vibrant nightlife that is dominant in some parts of the city. Entertainment is the soul of the city and you will find lots of it here. Comprising of some great beaches, picturesque mountains and luscious wetlands; Los Angeles offers a great diversity of native plants some of which are declared as endangered species. With a Subtropical-Mediterranean climate, Los Angeles enjoys sunshine most part of the year with only 35 days of measured annual precipitation. The beautiful landscape along with a pleasant climate and a plethora of attractions make Los Angeles a wonderful place to visit.
